The Origin of the Ruai Bird

It is said that in ancient times in the area of Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan precisely in the interior of the Bantahan continent to the east of the Sekura City, the Capital City of the Keramat Bay District inhabited by the Dayaks, there was a very amazing event to be known.

According to information people in that area there is a small kingdom, located not far from Mount Bawang which is adjacent to Mount Ruai. Not far from the two mountains in question there is a cave called "Batu Caves", in which there are many small streams in which there are a lot of fish and the cave is inhabited by an old grandfather who may be said "magic".

The story begins with a king who rules the kingdom above and has seven daughters, the king has not had a wife anymore since the death of the empress or mother of the seven daughters. Among the seven princesses there is one daughter of the youngest king or the youngest. The youngest has good character, diligent, likes to help and obedient to parents, therefore it is not surprising that his father loved him. Another case with the six older siblings, his behavior is very different from the youngest, the six siblings have an evil heart, jealous, envious, like to argue with parents, and lazy to work. Every day he does just playing - playing alone.

With these two backgrounds, the father (king) becomes favoritism towards his daughters. Almost every day the sixth brother of the youngest was scolded by his father, while the youngest was very spoiled. Seeing this treatment, the sixth brother of the youngest became vengeful, even hating his own younger sibling, so if his father was not in place, the target of the brother is to take revenge on the youngest by hitting it out - without any pity so that the youngest's body becomes bluish - blue and because of fear of being beaten again the youngest became afraid of his brother.

For that, everything that was ordered by his brother would not want to sibungsu must obey such as: washing his brother's clothes, cleaning the house and yard, cooking, washing dishes, even the most terrible, sibungsu was usually told to bring in some young cadets for friends / accompanying his brother who six people earlier. All the work is only done by the youngest alone while the six siblings are just joking.

Once upon a time the result of his sixth brother's treatment of the youngest was known by the king (father) by looking at the body (body) of the youngest because he had been beaten but was afraid to tell the truth to the father, and if the father asked the event that happened to the youngest to his brother's sixth brother makes the reasons that make the father one hundred percent believe that nothing happened. One of the reasons made by his brother is because of his youngest body

blue because sibungsu stole a neighbor's papaya, then was caught and hit by the neighbor. Because of too much trust in the father's story from his brother, the father did not extend the problem in question.

That's the life of the youngest experienced with his six older siblings, even though the youngest still behaves not facing the treatment of his six siblings, sometimes the youngest cries bitterly regretting himself why his mother so quickly left him. so he cannot get protection. For protection from the father, it can be said is still lacking. Because his father is busy with royal affairs and government affairs.

After experiencing the days of misery, then one day all the palace residents gathered to hear the news that the king would go to another kingdom to further strengthen the kinship between them for one month. The seven children (his daughter) did not miss to hear the news of his father's departure. At the meeting it was also announced that the power of the king for one month was delegated to the youngest, which is important if the king was not in place, then the problems related to the kingdom (government) must ask (ask for) instructions from the youngest . Hearing the news, the six siblings were shocked and their respective intentions arose in the heart of his brother to vent his feelings of envy, when the father had departed later. And arises in the hearts of each brother why his father's trust is bestowed on the youngest not on them.

The soldiers side by side in the departure of the king was very busy to prepare everything. So the next day the king's army departed with the flag and horse which were witnessed by all the people of the kingdom and released by his seven daughters.

The departure of the father had lasted a week that passed. Then the time came, the sixth of the older brother's awaited moment to release his evil lust, which was to eradicate the youngest so as not to live together again and if necessary the youngest must be killed. These signs are known by the youngest through his dream who wants to be killed by his brother at bedtime at night.

After negotiating between the six siblings and the plan was ripe, then one afternoon the sixth brother in the youngest called the youngest, what did he do? Apparently the six kakanya invited the youngest to look for fish (nod) which in the Malay language Sambas was looking for fish with a tool called a bucket made from rattan and shaped like an ovoid (oval). Because he was very happy that his brother wanted to be friends with him again, then the youngest accepted the invitation. Though in the invitation tucked a revenge his brother against the youngest, but the youngest did not suspect it at all.

Without further thought the seven princesses departed that afternoon, with each carrying a respite and the seven of them arrived at the place they were going to (the nodding location), namely the stone cave, the youngest was told to enter into the cave first, only followed by his six older siblings. After they entered, the youngest was told to split up in order to get more fish and he did not know that he was far behind with his brothers.

The youngest was further into the cave, while the six older siblings were still in front of the cave and prayed that the youngest could not find a trace to go home later. The six siblings burst out laughing because the youngest had disappeared from sight. The atmosphere of the pitch dark cave made the youngest really - really desperate to find a way out of the cave. Not long after, the six siblings returned from the stone cave to his house without bringing the youngest and in the end the youngest was lost.

Feeling that the youngest was being played by his older brother, then he stayed alone in the stone cave and sat cross-legged on a rock in the river flow in the cave to lament his fate which had been deceived by his six siblings, the youngest could only cry day and night because there was not a single creature that could help in the cave except the pitch black conditions and the fish that swam here and there.

How is the youngest's fate? without feeling the youngest was in the cave had been seven days and seven nights, but he was still unable to go home, precisely on the seventh day the youngest was in the cave, unexpectedly there was a very frightening event in the rock cave, a thunderous roar seemed to want to knock down the rock cave , the youngest could only cry and scream to hold back his fears, then at that moment accompanied by a thunderous sound came the appearance of a aged old man who was powerful and was right in front of the youngest, then the youngest was surprised to see it, before long the grandfather said, "What are you doing here my grandson? ", Then the youngest replied," I was abandoned by my brothers and sisters, Grandpa! ", Then the youngest cried in fear so that the tears did not stop coming out, unexpectedly at that time with the grandfather's supernatural powers, the tears of the youngest's eyes slowly turned into large and large numbers of white eggs, then the the youngest has been reshaped by the magic grandfather into a beautiful bird with feathers. The youngest can still talk like a human at that time, then the grandfather said again, "My grandson I will help you from the misery that befell your life but by the way you have changed your form into a bird and you will I give the name" Ruai Bird, if I have disappeared from your sight then erase the eggs so that they become birds as your friends! ". Then spontaneity the youngest has turned into a bird by answering the speech of the grandfather with magic answers quack ... quack ... quack ... quack ... quack, At the same time the magic grandfather disappeared with smoke and vultures that are very many in number and at that time the birds left the cave and lived in the tree in front of where the youngest used to live, with a quack ... quack ... quack ... quack ... quack, They witnessed the youngest siblings being punished by his father for killing the youngest.
