VPN (Virtual Private Network) and its functions

VPN is an acronym for Virtual Private Network , which is a private connection through a public network or the internet, virtual network means that the network that occurs is only virtual .. Private is the network that is formed is private where not everyone can access it. The data sent is encrypted so that it remains confidential even through public networks. If you use a VPN, it is as if you are creating a network on a network or so-called tunnel. VPN uses one of the three tunneling technologies available: PPTP, L2TP and the latest standard, Internet Protocol Security (commonly abbreviated to IPSec). VPN is a combination of tunneling and encryption technology. How it works VPN (with the PPTP protocol) ad ne as follows:

VPN requires a server that functions as a liaison between PCs, VPN servers can be computers with VPN Server applications or a Router.

  • To start a connection, the computer with the VPN Client application contacts the VPN Server, the VPN Server then verifies the username and password and if successful the VPN Server provides a new IP Address on the client computer and then a connection / tunnel will be formed.
  • Furthermore, the client computer can be used to access various resources (computers or LANs) that are behind the VPN Server, for example, transferring data, printing documents, browsing with the gateway provided from the VPN Server, doing remote desktop and so on.

What is VPN Function?
VPN technology provides three main functions for its users. The main functions are as follows :
1. Confidentiality

READ ALSO

VPN technology has a working system that encrypts all data that passes through it. With this encryption technology, your confidentiality will be better maintained. Even if there are parties who can tap your data back and forth, but not necessarily they can read it easily because it has been randomized. By implementing this encryption system, no one can easily access and read the contents of your data network.
2. Data Integrity (Data Integrity )
When passing through the Internet, your data has actually gone very far across various countries. In the middle of its journey, anything can happen to its contents. Whether it's lost, damaged, even manipulated contents by prankster. VPN has technology that can maintain the integrity of the data you send to get to its destination without defects, lost, damaged, or manipulated by others.

3. Origin Authentication (Authentication Source )
VPN technology has the ability to authenticate the sender of the data sources that will be received. VPN will check all incoming data and retrieve information on the data source. Then the address of this data source will be approved if the authentication process is successful. As such, VPN guarantees all data sent and received by you from the proper source. No data is falsified or transmitted by other parties.
